How to Read this Report

The Gene Essence™ Report is a summary of your genotyping results and consists of a large number of SNP associations to various diseases and conditions that have been published in the scientific literature. We refer to SNPs being associated to diseases or conditions since in some cases the SNP association is specific to a disease (like asthma or type 2 diabetes) whereas in other cases the SNP may serve as a marker to a specific health-related condition (such as an elevated plasma level of cholesterol or IgE).

The Report is organized in a way that allows you to see your genotype results either with a:

Search by Condition:
You can search by a specific disease or condition when you click on the Search.by.Condition.button under Your Gene Essence™ Report.

A drop-down menu lists all of the current diseases and conditions for which SNP associations have been documented in Your Gene Essence™ report. Selecting a specific disease or condition from this menu will display your genotype results for that specific association. See the Sample Report and step-by-step instructions for how to read and interpret your results.

OR

Search by SNP:
You can also search SNP associations by looking up your genotype results for a specific SNP. Click on the Search.By.SNP.button under Your.Gene.Essence™.Report. A drop-down menu lists SNPs by rs number (a reference number used to track individual SNPs). Selecting a specific SNP from this menu will display your genotype results for one or more conditions found to be associated with that SNP. The Sample Report also contains an example of a report using this approach.

Finally, you can access the entire 900,000+ genotypes assigned to you by choosing:

Complete SNP Data:
You can click on the Complete.SNP.Data.button under Your.GeneEssence™.Report, and by entering a SNP rs number you can find your genotype for any SNP detected by the Affymetrix® Genome-Wide Human SNP Array 6.0. Here you will also find useful links to public domain resources that you can use for additional information on SNPs and disease-condition associations. These resources are currently used by the scientific research community so you will find the most recent information on SNPs and associations that is rich in detail. This part of the report can serve as a gateway to further discovery about the technology and the scientific advances in genetics, and will add to your enjoyment as you discover more about yourself, through your genome.
